Contraindications

Equine Sports Massage Therapy is a safe form of therapy but there are some conditions where the application of massage would be contraindicated:

• acute inflammation

• immediately after haemorrhage

• dehydration

• infection or raised temperature

• skin irritations, fungal or bacterial infections

• colic or exertional rhabdomyolysis (tying up)

• cancerous metastatic tumours

• bleeding disorders

• pregnancy

An undiagnosed lameness will also prevent the application of massage therapy.
