Terms and Conditions

1.            All massage sessions are carried out in accordance with the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 and the 2015 Exemption Order which provide that unless a 'maintenance' massage is required, veterinary consent must be obtained before providing massage therapy to any animal.  Should the application of a 'maintenance' massage be requested/required, the horse/pony must be registered with a veterinary surgeon.

2.            In order to obtain consent from your veterinary surgeon, Intuitive Equine Massage Therapy (“IEMT”) will require your  consent (this can either be oral or in writing)  to enable IEMT to contact your veterinary surgeon for the purposes of (i) obtaining consent to provide massage therapy and, if required (ii) discussing any issues which your horse/pony may have.

3. In the event that your horse/pony exhibits signs of lameness during the dynamic observations,  unless the reason for the lameness has (i) previously been identified by your veterinary surgeon and (ii) veterinary consent has been provided, IEMT will be unable to provide massage therapy and a cancellation fee (please see prices) will be payable.

4.            Should further sessions be required/recommended, you agree that your consent (whether provided orally or in writing) will enable IEMT to contact your Veterinary Surgeon for each and every session which may be required beyond the period of six months.  Veterinary consent usually entitles the therapist to provide therapy to the horse/pony for a period of six months unless the horse/pony is seen by a veterinary surgeon during that period, in which case, fresh consent will be required.

5.            If your horse/pony has sustained an injury or suffered an illness between booking the appointment and IEMT attending your horse/pony for the purposes of providing massage therapy, IEMT may be unable to provide massage therapy to your horse/pony (please also refer to the list of contraindications).

6.            Should there be an outbreak of a contagious or infectious disease on the yard where your horse/pony lives (for example equine influenza, equine herpes, strangles or ringworm), please inform IEMT no later than 24 hours prior to the date and time of the scheduled appointment or, as soon as reasonably practicable.

7.            Should IEMT deem it appropriate for your horse/pony to be looked at/treated by a Veterinary Surgeon, IEMT will advise that your horse/pony be referred to your Veterinary Surgeon.

8.            IEMT is unable to diagnose any problems your horse/pony may have.  If your horse/pony does not improve, your Veterinary Surgeon should be consulted.  Equine Sports Massage Therapy is not a replacement for veterinary care but is used alongside conventional health care.

9.            IEMT warrants that Rebecca Marment (trading as Intuitive Equine Massage Therapy) is fully qualified and insured.  Rebecca is also a member of the International Association of Animal Therapists (IAAT).

10.            Payment is required by way of cash or Bank transfer at the time of the appointment - a receipted invoice will be provided after the session by way of e-mail or post.

11.          Please advise IEMT if the cost of providing massage therapy to your horse/pony is to be included as part of an insurance claim.  If an insurance report is required, this will be provided at no extra cost.
